AEW Double Or Nothing 2020: Preview and Predictions

All Elite Wrestling ‘Double Or Nothing’ (2020) is set for TONIGHT! A much anticipated PPV event in which, under these unforeseen circumstances, will be held at a basically empty Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida. This will be AEW’s first attempt at a PPV since this Global Pandemic struck the nation and changed the wrestling world as we know it. Wrestlemania 36 took place over a month ago in a pre taped, lackluster event, aside from a handful of segments. Double or Nothing will be the most talked about wrestling event since this pandemic began. A stacked card, including a 9-man casino ladder match for a future AEW world championship opportunity, the undefeated Mr. Brodie Lee vs the undefeated Jon Moxley for the AEW championship, Cody vs Lance Archer to crown the first ever TNT champion, and for the first time ever a match will be held in a empty football stadium! 82,000 seats in capacity in the background of what is being called a ‘Stadium Stampede Match’ between The Inner Circle and The Elite.

Buy In (Pre Show): Private Party (4-1) Vs. Best Friends (7-3)

This will be a very entertaining match to kick off the night. I expect a ton of high flying and fast paced action. The Best Friends have been a weekly stable on Wednesday nights, and probably AEW’s most exposed team in 2020. Being the number one contenders in the weekly rankings, expect the Best Friends winning ways to continue. Private Party are such a young and talented team, but they haven’t been showcased nearly enough to be given a tag title opportunity. Their time will come, just not now.

Prediction: Best Friends Win

Penelope Ford (3-2 ) Vs. Kris Statlander (3-4)

Credit: AEW

The Women’s division AEW has put together has been very underwhelming so far. Why is this match happening, let alone on a PPV card? AEW’s female competitors aren’t showcased enough, or at least not enough to make you care about them . Aside from Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, and their current champion, Nyla Rose, no women’s wrestler has shown anything in recent months. Expect ‘The Alien’ to go over here, as Penelope Ford still needs some more matches under her belt to even be in any type of discussion for a push.

Prediction : Kris Statlander Wins

MJF (7-0) Vs. Jungle Boy (7-5)

Credit: AEW

MJF has been phenomenal these last few weeks on Dynamite, whether it be him cutting promos from his home in Long Island, or wagering on matches from the crowd. He is the definition of a HEEL. Jungle Boy (or Jungle Boy Jack Perry [as JR says]) is a super talented wrestler. I expect these two young bucks (no pun intended) to put on a show. MJF needs to win, as he’s in prime position to be the next face of this company. What does every face of a company eventually need? A championship. Expect this monster heel run to continue and MJF’s stock to rise. One last thing, Wardlow (MJF’s Muscle) might try to get involved, but if that’s the case he’ll be interrupted by the other Jurassic Express Member, Luchasaurus. I can see that being a hot feud over the next few weeks.

Prediction: MJF Wins

Dustin Rhodes (7-4) Vs. Shawn Spears (5-7)

Credit: AEW

This is going to be a nice little match, with two competitors who have had a mildly entertaining feud on Dynamite. Shawn Spears, since joining AEW, has yet to be in a big feud. I expect him to go over Rhodes here. If Cody were to win that TNT Championship, this match could lay the foundation for a title program between the two. I would love to see ‘The Chairman’ Shawn Spears in a title program!

Prediction: Shawn Spears Wins

AEW Women’s World Championship Match: Nyla Rose (5-1) vs. Hikaru Shida (10-3)

Credit: AEW

As previously stated , the AEW women’s roster is very underwhelming. They aren’t gifted with talents such as Charlotte Flair or Sasha Banks. So, they are in a tricky situation here. Nyla Rose has been booked as a monster heel, kinda like a Brock Lesnar, she is a trash talking, take no prisoners, monster heel b***h. Opposing her is Hikaru Shida, who has been a diamond in the rough, with an impressive 10-3 record. She has clearly been pushed and shown to be the divisions best worker so far. Nyla Rose is the champ and has looked unstoppable, so I see her going over. But, after Shida, I have to ask, who’s next? AEW has some serious work to do with this division, and if they don’t .. then Rose will be champ for a long time.

Prediction : Nyla Rose Retains

The Casino Ladder Match

This is going to be fun. A loaded match, consisting of Darby Allin, Colt Cabana, Orange Cassidy, Joey Janela, Scorpio Sky, Kip Sabian, Frankie Kazarian, Luchasaurus, AND a mystery competitor. So many guys are capable of winning this match, and honestly, this match is completely unpredictable. Could the mystery star be a debut of a former WWE superstar? Could it be a returning PAC, or even Jeff Cobb? Who knows, but my pick is going to be Darby Allin. Allin has been made to look like a complete star, and with his high flying antics and daredevil attitude, I think he steals the show and silences all his doubters.

Prediction : Darby Allin Wins

AEW TNT Championship Match: Cody (10-3) Vs. Lance Archer (5-0)

Credit: AEW

‘Iron’ Mike Tyson will make his surprising All Elite Wrestling debut to unveil the new TNT Championship. After weeks of matches, we’ve come to a very predictable tournament finale. The storytelling in this feud has been on point. On Dynamite three weeks ago, Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts“ violated Cody’s wife, Brandi, on live television, and since then this feud has grown to be predictable. I think ‘the Murderhawk’ Lance Archer will look very strong in defeat, but I do expect some screwy finish, especially with Mike Tyson being involved here. Cody’s matches have been among the companies best booked matches so far, and this will be no exception. Also, I can’t wait to see what the new championship looks like, since the AEW world championship is absolutely gorgeous.

Prediction: Cody Wins

AEW World Championship Match: Jon Moxley (C); (10-0) Vs. Brodie Lee (5-0)

Credit: AEW

This match shouldn’t be happening, well at least not yet. Jon Moxley had his title stolen from him by Mr. Brodie Lee weeks back, and since then it’s been a weird situation with the champ chasing his belt. Brodie Lee is that guy, and will continue to be a force while leading the Dark Order, but he doesn’t need to be champ. Just like Lance Archer, he has looked insanely strong and hasn’t suffered a loss, but expect this to be a war with Moxley ultimately going over. Lee will still look strong in defeat, and as he and his faction will continue to grow over these next few months. Moxley and Lee (or Ambrose and Harper) have history from their time in WWE, battling as members of The Shield and The Wyatt Family, so these guys have a good amount of memorable, lengthy matchups. This will be another.

Prediction: Jon Moxley Retains

Stadium Stampede Match: The Inner Circle Vs. The Elite

Credit: AEW

Normally, I hate it when non-title matches are main events, but for this I’ll make an exception. This is going to be something nobody has ever seen. Coupled with the immense amount of talent in this match and the complete backing of the company, I 1000% expect this to be on the tip of everyone’s tongue when they talk about the years best and most unique matches. Most of The Elite have been off TV for weeks, as they adhere to social distancing from home during these times, so they need this win here. My prediction? I think they get it. I can’t wait to see the visual of the ring in the middle of the empty TIAA Bank Field, it’s going to be WONDERFUL (in my best Broken Matt Hardy voice).

Prediction: The Elite Wins
